Welcome
Our Mission
We will focus our resources to secure donor and volunteer support and together deliver substantially nutritious hampers to all our clients with respect and dignity, and nutritiously support our clients aged newborn to two years, as well as expectant and nursing mothers.
Helping People Help Themselves The Surrey Food Bank received no core government funding.
We assist about 14,000 people per month from the Surrey and North Delta communities.
42% of our clients are children and babies. Children DO NOT choose poverty.
The Surrey Food Bank "helps people help themselves". We do that in a variety of ways, but primarily by providing a food hamper designed to supplement a client's food needs.
The Food Bank has been operating since 1983 to help those hurt by a downturn in the economy. Since our modest beginnings, we have helped hundreds of thousands of people.
The Surrey Food Bank Society is a nonprofit, charitable organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors elected from members of the Society. The Board oversees the Executive Director, staff and volunteers who run the day-to-day operation of the Food Bank.
The Financial Story Our major financial costs are staff, building and operating costs. As you can imagine, it takes a large effort to supervise over 50 volunteers, collect, warehouse and distribute hundreds of tons of food, assemble thousands of hampers every month, and coordinate all the events the food bank has each year to raise food and resources.
All funding comes directly from our community. We do not receive government assistance to operate any part of the organization.
If you are interested in donating money or items in-kind a tax receipt will be issued for amounts over $10.00.
Food donations can be made at all major grocery chains in our community. We distribute over three million dollars worth of food annually.
Your support of our events is greatly appreciated.
We do not solicit door-to-door for food or money.
