A Message from the Executive Director
It is with bittersweet emotions that I announce my transition from the Surrey Food Bank to pursue new opportunities, effective January 1, 2022. I am extremely proud of the success and accomplishments of the SFB throughout my tenure.
During my 11 years with the Surrey Food Bank, and the last 4 as the organizations Executive Director, I have had the privilege of working with an incredible team to lead the SFB to where it is today. After shepherding the organization through our move to a newer larger facility, and the creation of a new 3-year strategic plan, I feel that the SFB is in a wonderful position to take the next step in its journey.
I will always cherish the incredible relationships I have developed with our generous donors, our amazing staff, and our selfless volunteers. Without you, we could not do what we do. I am very grateful to the Board of Directors and our community for their words of support and encouragement.
Following my departure at the end of 2021, June Gambrel, our Director of Finance and Administration, will be stepping in as the Interim Executive Director while the Board begins the search for a new permanent ED. The Board will be working closely with June, and the staff, to ensure a smooth transition and stable leadership throughout the recruitment process.
I am confident that the SFB will continue to be a leading voice in the fight against poverty and food insecurity in our community, and I wish everyone all the best as they move forward.
Thank you for all your enthusiasm, dedication, and passion for the Surrey Food Bank, and for being such an amazing team to work with,
Feezah Jaffer
Executive Director, Surrey Food Bank
A Message from the Board of Directors
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Surrey Food Bank, I want to offer our sincerest best wishes to Feezah Jaffer as she moves on to this new stage in her career. Feezah has been a driving force of many achievements at the SFB, and her leadership and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.
With her guidance, and the purchase and renovation of our new facility, we have been able to make a larger impact on food insecurity in our community. Feezah has also been instrumental in the launch of our community partner distribution center in Guildford, all while managing the logistical challenges involved in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through Feezah’s leadership, we have been able to facilitate vital partnerships, achieve annual fundraising targets, and develop programs such as the Seniors 65+ distribution day, all of which help us work towards our vision of having a nourished and thriving community, free of poverty.
As the Board begins the search for a new executive director, we are thrilled to announce that June Gambrel, our Director of Finance and Administration, will be stepping in as the interim ED. We are confident that June’s experience, and her history as a Director with the Surrey Food Bank will ensure a smooth transition as we recruit for our new permanent Executive Director.
During this transitional phase, we encourage any team members to reach out to June, or if required, the appointed Board liaisons, Sam Sidhu and Carol Fee with any questions, comments, or concerns.
Please join me in congratulating Feezah in this new chapter. We will be forever grateful for her contributions and wish her success in all future endeavours.
Regards,
Sam Sidhu,
Chair, Surrey Food Bank Board of Directors
