Community Events Assistant (Casual) 

Status: Casual/Part-time (Weekends; occasional evenings)
Reports to: Events Lead (Planning & Coordination)
Ideal Candidate: Student or emerging professional seeking weekend work in events/community engagement.

Job Summary

The Community Events Assistant leads Surrey Food Bank’s onsite presence at community and third-party events. This role leads volunteers, executes event setup and guest experience, ensures safe/accurate donation handling, captures content, and completes post event reporting.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Oversee all day of event operations, including arrival, setup, signage placement, registration management, guest experience, and event teardown.
  • Lead and support Events Volunteers on site; run a brief orientation and assign roles.
  • Follow donation handling Standard Operating Procedures (cash box/QR), reconcile and submit event summary.
  • Capture photos/videos for Communications; collect partner contact info/leads.
  • Manage event kit/inventory; report wear/needs to Events Lead.
  • Represent SFB professionally; deliver brief ‘Meet the Bank’ scripts when appropriate.
  • File post event debriefs within 48 hours to Events Lead if needed.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Customer service/event experience (student clubs, campus events, retail, hospitality)
  • Strong interpersonal skills; Maintains professionalism during busy or stressful moments

Work Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • This position requires standing, walking, and bending for extended periods.
  • Class 5 driver’s license and clean driver’s record
  • Ability to drive a cargo van
  • Successful completion and maintenance of the criminal record process, including the vulnerable sector search.
  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in varying weather conditions.
  • Available for most weekends (schedule provided 4–6 weeks ahead).

Compensation

  • $24.00 per hour (casual), mileage reimbursement when applicable.
